How to Send a Test SMS
To send a test SMS, open the Dashboard tab in Texty, enter a phone number in international format, and select Send Test. Then check the phone and the new record in SMS Logs.
What do you need before sending a test SMS?
Section titled “What do you need before sending a test SMS?”Make sure:
- Texty is installed and active.
- One SMS gateway is connected and active.
- The gateway account can send to your test country.
- You have a phone that can receive the test.
Texty supports Twilio, Vonage, Plivo, and Clickatell. If no gateway is ready, follow how to connect your first SMS gateway.
Use your own phone or an approved test number. Do not send test messages to customers.
How do you send a test SMS?
Section titled “How do you send a test SMS?”Log in to your WordPress admin. Open Texty and select the Dashboard tab. Find the Quick Send SMS.
Enter the receiving number in full international format. Click Send Test.
For example, a US number may look like +14155552671. Include the plus sign and country code.
Texty sends its standard test message. You do not need to wait for an order, signup, or other site event.
How do you know the test worked?
Section titled “How do you know the test worked?”Check all three results:
- Texty shows that the request was accepted.
- The phone receives the test SMS.
- A new record appears in Texty > SMS Logs.

Important: A successful request means the gateway accepted the SMS. It may not mean the carrier delivered it to the phone. Check the provider report if the message does not arrive.
Why did the test SMS fail?
Section titled “Why did the test SMS fail?”| What happened | What to check |
|---|---|
| Texty says no gateway is active | Return to Texty > Settings and activate a connected gateway. |
| The gateway will not connect | Copy the credentials again and remove any extra spaces. |
| The phone number is rejected | Use the full international format with the correct country code. |
| The sender is rejected | Use a number or sender ID that your provider allows for that country. |
| A trial send fails | Make sure the receiving number is approved in the provider account. |
| The account has no funds | Add funds through your SMS provider, then test again. |
| Texty shows success, but no SMS arrives | Check SMS Logs and the provider report for a delivery result. |
Use the guide for your provider if you need to check the saved details:
- Connect Twilio to WordPress
- Connect Vonage to WordPress
- Connect Plivo to WordPress
- Connect Clickatell to WordPress
If you ask for help, share the log status, provider error, date, and gateway name. Never share your API token, secret, or full customer data.
What should you test next?
Section titled “What should you test next?”Once the test SMS arrives, turn on one Texty notification. Create the matching event, such as a test WooCommerce order, and confirm the message on the phone and in SMS Logs.
This checks more than the gateway. It confirms that Texty can detect the store event, choose the recipient, build the message, and send it.
