Gateway Setup

Connect and manage the SMS gateway Texty uses to send messages from your WordPress or WooCommerce site.

Texty does not sell SMS credits or send messages through its own network. Instead, you connect your own supported SMS provider. Texty prepares the message, sends it through the active gateway, and records the result in SMS Logs.

Texty includes built-in support for Twilio, Vonage, Plivo, and Clickatell.

Which SMS gateways can you use with Texty?

Section titled “Which SMS gateways can you use with Texty?”

Texty currently includes four built-in SMS gateways.

GatewayWhat you need
TwilioAccount SID, Auth Token, and SMS-enabled number
VonageAPI Key, API Secret, and approved sender
PlivoAuth ID, Auth Token, and SMS-enabled number
ClickatellAPI Key

Choose a provider that supports the countries where you need to send SMS. Your provider controls message pricing, sender requirements, destination rules, and account limits.

You only need one active gateway to use Texty.

Choose your provider below for step-by-step instructions.

Connect Twilio to Texty using your Account SID, Auth Token, and SMS-enabled Twilio number.

Add your Vonage API Key, API Secret, and approved sender, then activate the gateway in Texty.

Connect Plivo using your Auth ID, Auth Token, and SMS-enabled number.

Add your Clickatell API Key, connect the provider, and activate it for Texty messages.

Always send a test SMS after connecting a provider.

Send the test to a phone you control, then check Texty > SMS Logs.

A successful setup should give you these results:

  1. Texty accepts the send request.
  2. Your gateway processes the SMS.
  3. A new record appears in SMS Logs.

Ideally, the SMS should also arrive on the test phone.

Important: A Sent status means the gateway accepted the request. It does not always confirm final delivery to the phone.

Best practice: Test your gateway before enabling customer notifications, automations, or OTP verification. This makes later troubleshooting much easier.

Yes. Texty can save settings for more than one supported provider, but only one gateway can be active at a time.

The active gateway handles all new Texty SMS messages.

If you want to move to another provider, connect and test the new gateway before switching whenever possible. This helps prevent a gap in SMS sending.

What is the difference between deactivate and disconnect?

Section titled “What is the difference between deactivate and disconnect?”

Use Deactivate when you want Texty to stop sending through a gateway but keep its saved credentials.

Use Disconnect when you want Texty to remove the credentials saved for that provider.

Disconnecting a gateway from Texty does not cancel or close your account with Twilio, Vonage, Plivo, or Clickatell.

What should you do after your gateway is ready?

Section titled “What should you do after your gateway is ready?”

Once your test SMS works, your gateway setup is complete.

You can now:

  • Enable WordPress SMS notifications
  • Send WooCommerce order updates
  • Notify Dokan vendors
  • Configure SMS recipients
  • Set up Texty Pro automations
  • Enable OTP phone verification

For your first real test, turn on one notification, create the matching event, and check both the receiving phone and Texty > SMS Logs.

Start by sending a test SMS. Then check the newest record in SMS Logs before changing your settings.

Common causes include:

  • Incorrect gateway credentials
  • No active gateway
  • Invalid phone number format
  • Unsupported or unapproved sender
  • Low gateway account balance
  • Trial account restrictions
  • Country or destination restrictions

Use the troubleshooting guide to identify whether the issue comes from Texty, the gateway, the sender, the recipient number, or the event that should send the message.
